Solidarity Events for the People of Burma

14 August 2008

Jack Dunford a prominent advocate for the people of Burma will be visiting Australia in the coming weeks for a number of speaking engagements. His talks and other solidarity activities will occur around Australia thoughout August.

Burma Cyclone Support Day: Burma Showcase
At Palm Grove, Darling Harbour (opposite of the IMAX Theatre)
Sunday August 17 - 10am - 4pm
The day will feature

  • Cultural music with traditional Burmese instruments
  • Live band
  • Fashion show featuring costumes of various ethnic groups
  • Traditional dances and martial arts
  • Chinlone - football using cane ball
  • Food stalls, Burmese Arts and Craft stalls

The Impact of Ongoing Conflict in Eastern Burma Act for Peace welcomes you to two special evenings to critique the issues affecting refugees and displaced people of Burma. We are pleased to offer the rare opportunity of hearing Thailand based keynote speaker, Jack Dunford MBE, Executive Director of the Thai Burma Border Consortium and Chairperson of the Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand.
